Marc Wiseman

Marc is an experienced executive with over 30 years of automotive expertise in product and business strategies driving the design, analysis and development of conventional, hybrid, electric and fuel cell powertrains for cars, trucks, off-highway vehicles, trains and drones.

Marc started his career as an academic after getting his PhD in Mechanical engineering, and then moved into automotive engineering industry in 1994.  In 2009, he joined Ricardo Strategic Consulting, a boutique management consultancy, with a portfolio of programs for automotive and technology companies globally, including GM, Ford, FCA, Toyota, Paccar, Proterra, Qualcomm, Mahindra & Mahindra, John Deere, Caterpillar, European Investment Bank, California Air Resources Board and Energy Commission, US Department of Energy and Federal Railroad Administration.

Marc’s primary focus has been on clean transportation and advanced mobility solutions.  His scope of activities include technology and cost roadmapping, strategic sourcing, production launch management, low and high volume manufacturing strategies, pilot/demonstration vehicle deployment and monitoring and production readiness audits.    Marc has also worked on the infrastructure required for vehicle integration including grid to vehicle, hydrogen and CNG refueling and enabling infrastructure for new mobility solutions.  Alongside his transportation activities, Marc also worked in developing commercialization strategies for new technologies in renewable energy/distributed power systems including utility scale wind and solar programs.

Marc’s recent activities have included:

  • Global Outlook, key market trends and sales forecasts for conventional (IC engine), electric, fuel cell, CNG and bio-fuel vehicles including emissions inventory impacts of new technology on well to wheel and life cycle carbon emissions and pollutant emissions.

  • Determining the business case and adoption rate forecast for zero emission commercial vehicles, including the data monitoring on over 100 pilot deployment trucks and buses in California funded by CARB.

  • Economics and business case for electric charging and hydrogen refueling stations and the associated cost reduction roadmap.

  • Understanding global supply chain and associated component costs for electric and fuel cell parts serving micro-mobility, passenger car and commercial vehicles

  • Technology and cost roadmaps, and global sales volumes for ADAS and self-driving systems and the business drivers for evolving the electrical and electronic architecture of vehicles.

  • Assessing the impacts of mobility as a service (MaaS) and on-demand goods delivery on the vehicle industry.  This includes market forecasts based on assessed consumer demand rather than production forecasts, and scenario analysis including potential impacts of MaaS on personal vehicle sales and public transit.

  • Connectivity opportunities and monetization for micro-mobility, passenger car and commercial vehicle applications.

  • Understanding manufacturing cost barriers within automotive and related industries and assessing opportunities for new lightweight materials and new processes such as 3D printing.
